1969-1970: Break-Up

 
  • Jan 1969: The first Let It Be recording sessions in Twickenham go badly. George walks out, declaring he is leaving the group
  • Yellow Submarine, the soundtrack, is released in the U.S. and reaches number two on Billboard's chart.
  • The White Album/The Beatles is number one.
  • The Beatles perform together for the last time on the rooftop of Apple Corps Ltd. in London.
  • Sept. Lennon decides to leave the Beatles but is asked to wait six months before announcing this publicly.
  • Abbey Road is released in the U.K., where it soars to the top of the charts. It is the Beatles' last studio album.
  • Nov. Lennon returns his MBE medal as an anti-war protest.
  • April. 11 1970 McCartney announces that he is 'no longer working with The Beatles. Lennon is furious
  • May Let It Be, which was recorded before Abbey Road, is released in the U.K.
  • Let It Be, the documentary, premières in London. None of the Beatles attend.
