Which Beatles songs did Ringo write?

Ringo has never aspired to be a principal songwriter. His two sole writing credits for The Beatles are: Don’t Pass Me By and Octopus’s Garden.

Joint writing credits

Ringo also has a number of joint writing credits.

  • What Goes On Rubber Soul (Lennon-McCartney-Starr)
  • Flying Magical Mystery Tour (Lennon-McCartney-Harrison-Starr)
  • Dig It  Let It Be (Lennon-McCartney-Harrison-Starr)
  • Maggie May (Let It Be) (traditional: adaptation by Lennon-McCartney-Harrison-Starr)

Anthology

In the 1990s, the Anthology series saw the release of studio out-takes. There was also a controversial attempt to reunite the four Beatles for a single, Free as a Bird.

The release of the completed Now and Then in October 2023 also raises credit complexities - see here

  • Free As a Bird Anthology 1 Original composition by Lennon; the Beatles version by Lennon, McCartney, Harrison and Starkey
  • Christmastime Is Here Again (Lennon-McCartney-Harrison-Starr)
  • 12-Bar Original Anthology 2 (Lennon-McCartney-Harrison-Starr)
  • Los Paranoias Anthology 3(Lennon-McCartney-Harrison-Starr)
  • Now and Then Original composition by Lennon; the Beatles version by Lennon, McCartney, Harrison and Starkey
Sometimes Ringo contributed to the arrangement without a formal credit. Paul McCartney recently acknowledged that this was the case with the drum rhythm on Get Back for example.
